Import Contact List

1. Introduction #

Floatchat’s Import Contact List feature allows you to easily import up to 50,000 contacts, specifically for the WhatsApp channel. This feature enables you to send broadcasts to a large number of users in one go.

How is a Contact different from a User? #

In Floatchat, a “User” refers to a counterparty whose conversation is being tracked on the platform. There must be at least one incoming message from the user for them to be considered a user.

On the other hand, a “Contact” represents potential future users. These contacts can receive messages, and their conversations will be tracked once they respond and initiate a conversation.

Setup #

To set up the Import Contact List feature, follow these steps:

1. Deploy your bot on the WhatsApp channel.

2. Once the bot is deployed, you will see the import contact list icon on the left side.

3. Navigate to Contacts > Import Contact List.

4. 4. 4. Contact List format:
  • The mandatory column is “phone_no,” which should include the phone numbers of your target audience.
  • Optional columns include first_name, last_name, email, username, city, state, and country.
  • A header row must be present in the contact list. Without it, an error will occur during uploading.
  • Validations will be performed for phone_no and other mentioned columns. For example, if an incorrect email is entered in the email column, an error will occur.
  • Emoji characters only work in the username column.

5. Additional attributes in the contact list:

  •  Apart from the standard columns, you can include additional attributes using a header in the format “attribute_name||TYPE,” where TYPE can be TEXT, NUMBER, BOOLEAN, DATE, or TIME.
  •  If TYPE is not included, the default TYPE is TEXT.
  •  For example, the header can be “amount_paid||NUMBER.”

6. Import Contact List

Here you get two options:

  • Single Country
  • Multiple Countries

Single Country : #

  • Choose the desired country, and the corresponding country code will automatically be attached to the uploaded contact list (e.g., India – +91).
  • Upload an xlsx or CSV file containing up to 50,000 contacts. The default limit is 10,000.
  • Avoid manually adding a country code of a different country to any numbers in the datasheet to prevent counting as an error. Numbers with the selected country code will be processed as is.
  • Provide a name for the uploaded contact list log.

Multiple Countries : #

  • Upload the contact list with the respective country code (e.g., 91 for India). Ensure the number format includes the country code (e.g., 9198765432).
  • Provide a name for the uploaded contact list log.

Once the contact list is uploaded, it will be visible under the “Contact List” section. The “Export History” section displays logs of downloaded contact lists, while the “Import History” section shows details like File Name, Requested Time, Completed Time, Total Records, Error Count, and Status of the import process.

To run a broadcast, click on the “Run Broadcast” button after importing the contact list. This will redirect you to the “Create New Broadcast” window.
